Brigadier (Retd.) Dinesh Fernando (I.D.D. Fernando), a distinguished senior officer who rendered exceptional service to the Sri Lanka Army for over 33 years, has passed away.

He enters army history as an operational officer who bravely served at the forefront for the unity and territorial integrity of the motherland during the cruel war against terrorism that lasted for over three decades.

Beginning his military career on August 2, 1989, by joining Intake 11 of the Sri Lanka Army, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon successful completion of his training. During his tenure, he served as the 2nd-in-Command of the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps and held the position of Brigadier Coordinating at the Security Forces Headquarters – Mullaitivu (SFHQ-MLT) in the latter stage of his service.

In recognition of his invaluable service to the nation, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier in May 2022 and honorably retired from military service on October 2, 2022.

At the time of his passing, he was a resident of the Kahathuduwa area. His remains lie at his residence located at No. 358 C06, Ukkotuwa Road, Pragathi Mawatha, Kahathuduwa, Polgasowita for the public to pay their last respects. Details regarding the final rites will be notified later.
