The 160th Police Day of the Sri Lanka Police was commemorated with pride and distinction on 03 September 2026.

The main ceremony marking the 160th Police Day was held with great ceremony and grandeur on 03 September 2026 at the Bambalapitiya Police Field Force Headquarters.

The President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The President was accorded a ceremonial police honours parade, while the Sri Lanka Police website, redesigned to mark the 160th anniversary, was officially launched. The Sri Lanka Police App, developed to provide services and information to the public, was also inaugurated by the President.

In connection with the promotion of 1,489 police officers below the rank of Chief Inspector of Police and 153 officers of the Police Special Task Force, the President symbolically presented promotion letters to 20 officers.

A commemorative stamp issued to mark the 160th anniversary and a Coffee Table Book published on the occasion were also presented to the President by the Inspector General of Police.

The ceremony was further enhanced by a series of spectacular presentations, including a parachute display by Police Special Task Force personnel, impressive performances by the Police Kennels Division, and a vibrant presentation by the Police Cultural Division.

The Hon. Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Mr. Sunil Watagala, Secretary to the Ministry and retired DIG Mr. Ravi Seneviratne, the Governor of the Western Province, Commanders of the Tri-Forces, ambassadors, and numerous local and foreign dignitaries attended the ceremony as special guests.
