Officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has been arrested a high-ranking government official yesterday, April 28, in connection with a fraudulent vehicle registration scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect has been identified as Rajapaksage Gayani Kaushalya Wijesinghe. While she previously served as a Deputy Commissioner at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), she was currently holding the position of Commissioner at the Department of Probation and Child Care Services in Battaramulla at the time of her arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrest took place at approximately 9:20 AM following an investigation into irregularities within the motor registration system. According to CIABOC officials, the case centers on the illegal issuance of official number plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Illegal Documentation: The suspect is accused of facilitating the issuance of number plates for a vehicle that lacked a legal original registration.
Abuse of Office: The offense allegedly occurred during her tenure at the Department of Motor Traffic, where she reportedly bypassed standard legal protocols to register an unregistered vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The arrest was made under the offense of corruption, specifically linked to the fraudulent creation of identity for a vehicle without a valid legal trail,” a CIABOC spokesperson stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the arrest, Wijesinghe is expected to be produced before the Magistrate to face charges under the Bribery Act.
